3 Ways to find the Establishment Code, Member ID of EPF account


Knowing establishment code of your present and previous company is important to avail any EPFO facilities. It is also required to enable the services which are linked under the UAN. Most of the employees are facing difficulty to know their company code because the pay slips are just mentioned with PF account number. Before knowing how to find establishment code in 3 ways let us go through first what it is?



What is Establishment Code?


Establishment code is a numerical portion of your member ID which represents identity of employer. The code denotes your employer with up to 7 digits of number. It may be further extended with maximum of 3 characters which is also called as extension code. There are three ways are available to find the establishment code:

1. How to Find Est Code using Unified Portal





There is a new portal launched this year 2017 to replace the old website called unified portal. This portal is also accessible through www.epfindia.com. The unified portal has an option to find the code of companies registered under EPFO in just matter of seconds. Here the advantage is you need not to know any code number of your establishment except name of the company. All you have to do is just follow the simple steps given below.

1. Type the Name of your Establishment in the first column
2. Type the Code Number of your company in second column, if you do not know it just leave as blank
3. Enter the Captcha as shown then press Search


The search result will give you a table of contents which contains the Establishment ID, Establishment Code, Address and Office Name (under which EPFO office your establishment is currently registered with). The last column in table has clickable option named as View Details. When you press the View Details it displays your company details such as Establishment Code, PAN Status, ESIC Code, Zone, Primary Business Activity, Date of Establishment Setup, District, Country, EPFO Office Address, Region and Name and EDLI.



2. How to know Est code from Member ID


The following graphic gives you overview of your member ID and how you can know the Est code from it. We all know that member ID is 22 digits long. This 22 digit has combination of alphabetical and numerical characters. The first 5 characters represent the EPFO office code and region name. After that up to 7 digits number tells the company code. If you want to know the 22 digit member ID just refer your last year PF slips or insist your employer to provide it.


Now you should feel happy because here after you can find faster without any hassles through this method. In next method we are going to see on how to know Est code from Member ID. Before that we must know how to know your member ID. Why because Member ID is prerequisite before approaching any online services. It is also basic requirement for achieving transaction between two accounts and withdrawing the lump sum amount. The members are slightly disappointed because there is no straight away method to obtain member ID. It is not a rocket science as the simple thing is not yet discussed anywhere.

Many of your pay slips are printed with PF account number. The employee can login to corporate intranet/ internet portal to know it under respective login area. Alternatively, in every financial year end they can collect your PF slip from employer to know it. In some organizations, they do not reveal it directly on pay slips. The reasons may be the organization is not well established and the records of the employees are being maintained poorly. In some cases, the employees are even hesitates to collect it from employer. They were failed to collect it while quitting the job. Whatsoever to knowing member ID is privilege of an employee. The contributed money cannot be withheld by the employer. The latest regulations have also been introduced to ease the withdrawal procedure. The employee can withdraw the money without employer attestation after quitting the job.

The provident fund body has taken many steps to reduce bothers of the members. It has brought an online service which can reveal your PF account number from member ID. This service has been introduced to reduce the hassles but it was not extensively reached to members. Here after, the member need not wait for collecting the annual slip or walk to Human Resources (HR) department to know it. Hereafter, no one will get stuck in searching EPF account number. Knowing of your member ID in online is become easy. The following simple observation will help you to identify your member ID without any efforts.

What is Member ID?


The absolute format of EPF account code is considered as member id. It has been introduced to handle enquiry which related to Provident Fund and Universal Account Number. The required format is essential because the system is receiving lot of enquiries from different provinces. The centralized system will recognize the member in specific format. The length of Member ID is 22 digits alpha numerical form.

How to Know PF Number from Member ID


Now, every EPFO member can identify the PF account number easily from member id. It can be identified as 4 digits numerical number from EPF Member Id. Mostly, the last four digit code of the member id is known as PF account number. The remaining part of the member id consists of Region Code, PF Office Code, Establishment Code and Extension (Ext) code of the Establishment. Here an example format of PF number which is separated from Member ID is shown in the image to understand.

For Instance: Consider TB-VLR-00012345-ABC-0001234 as your EPF member ID. In this member id, TB - Region Code (The state where the PF office is located), VLR – PF office Code (3 characters), 12345 – Establishment Code (Maximum 7 digits), ABC – Extension Code (Maximum 3 characters) and 1234 – PF account number (Maximum 7 digits).

Trick to Find PF number through Online


This online service does not require any prior registration to check your PF number. However, the member should remember the submitted document and its number which was submitted to the employer along with the registration application for creating an EPF account during the enrollment of member.

In MEMBERS(dot)EPFOSERVICES(dot)IN portal select your document name first then type the document number/ID and mobile number to login. The mobile number should be same as it was mentioned in registration form or use recently updated one. In case the member does not remember the document id, it can be retrieved under ‘Forgot Login’. The members need not to worry about it. The member will be clued about the password with the document ID through SMS.

In ‘forgot Login’ after entering the registered mobile number, the system will sent an SMS typically as ‘Member Portal login reminder: You Driving License is NAME OF THE MEMBER. (Only one id to be intimated and date of birth is not required). ‘. Here NAME OF THE MEMBER has to be entered in the place of ‘Document Number’.

Mostly the password reminder message will carry your DOCUMENT NUMBER to the mobile number which was recorded during registration of EPF account or the recently updated mobile number. In case your document ID is not stated in the SMS, try to login using the NAME OF THE MEMBER as it appears on reminder message. After login download the E PASSBOOK to identify your MEMBER ID.

3. How to Find Est Code using EPFO services portal (Old Method)


The following steps are useful to you in case you opt for old method. All you need to know is your company name, region name and office name. Once you are confirm with it just follow these steps:

1. Select ‘Establishments under office’ then choose the city where your organisation is falls under.
2. Enable ‘Also search on Est. name' option then just type few characters of your company name.
3. Press ‘Search’ button to display the results.


Establishments under old Office Code: This search helps you to find the code of registered companies under old state regions of India. There are 22 states are available with corresponding 2 characters of region code are listed here.

For example: I have selected MH from the list and pressed search button. The search result displays the list of establishments that currently registered under Maharashtra state and the corresponding codes of the companies are displayed. In an establishment code MH/BAN/0000167/00X, MH is region code, BAN is EPFO office code and the third one 167 is an Establishment code. Here, 00X is an Extension code which is always mentioned in the last portion. If there is no extension it is left with three zeros.

If you know where your organization comes under then choose your EPFO office directly from the list to display the registered organisations. There are nearly 120 EPFO offices are listed here.

Show all est. under this PIN Code: One can find out company code easily using this option. The establishment code can just be found by entering the postal PIN code of company location.
