10 Tips to Safeguard your Internet Banking

1. Never share your information such as user name, transaction password, account number, registered mobile number, ATM PIN number, ATM security number, ATM card number and ATM expiry date with anybody over phone or SMS.

2. Do not respond popup window, phone call while you are transferring money in online and ATM as well. The hackers can trick you as if they are calling from bank to help you and rob your credentials.

3. Ensure whether URL address of your banking portal starts with https or http. The site starts with https assuring that your connection is encrypted and highly secured. The fraudsters may have fake sites just added with different extensions. The websites can be titled as same as bank website name and the appearance can also be look like exactly as original bank website. You could notice that lock symbol on status bar to confirm https sites or by clicking on the lock symbol from address bar can show you the Verisign certificate.

4. Update the antivirus, firewalls and other internet security software regularly in your PC to conduct safe internet banking transfers.

5. Avoid accessing net banking sites from internet cafeteria because there could be possibilities of key loggers are installed to monitor key strokes. The user can use virtual keyboard for password entry in public internet places to protect against key loggers.

6. Do not open or connect through any links mentioned on email received from unknown sources.

7. Do not disclose your account details at online shopping websites. The bank never asks you to share things even with bank staffs. The spoofing people may ask you to provide details through promotional calls.

8. Never give reply for bogus SMS claims your mobile number has been selected for cash prize or you won lottery. Fraudsters make you excite and collects your bank account details, account holders photo and address proofs.

9. Keep your login ID and password secret and difficult to predict. Keep change your password at regular intervals so as to defend against phishing risks.

10. In case you have changed or lost registered mobile number immediately lock your internet banking or update new mobile in your bank. Do not store confidential data in any hand held device as it can be easily read if the devices is stolen.
